Christian Wolff Weekend

5 - 6 June 2010, Shoreditch Church
Specialist new music organisation CoMA (Contemporary Music making for Amateurs) will host a festival celebrating the music of American composer Christian Wolff, who will visit the UK for this series of special events on the first weekend in June 2010. The weekend will be celebrated with key British experimental musicians and composers, and includes the world premiere of Wolff’s ‘London’ for ensemble Circle.

Central to the festival will be an ‘allcomers’ performance of Wolff’s seminal work of 1971, Burdocks, for
ensemble. CoMA is inviting participation from instrumentalists and singers of all abilities, who are encouraged to use any sound source they wish to bring and join the CoMA Allcomers Scratch Ensemble.

Taking place at St. Leonard's Church, Shoreditch, Christian Wolff In London will also feature performances by John Tilbury, Howard Skempton, Darragh Morgan, Robin Michael, Robert Worby, Ian Mitchell, Michael Parsons and Stephen Montague.

Friday 4 June at 7:30pm - Circle
Directed by Gregory Rose
Featuring Wolff’s Peace March 1, 2 and 3, and the world premiere of London, alongside works by Morton Feldman and Earle Brown.

Saturday 5 June at 1pm - Tilbury
John Tilbury (piano)
Including works by Wolff, Dave Smith, Howard Skempton, Michael Parsons and more.

Saturday 5 June at 6:30pm - In Conversation
Christian Wolff with John Tilbury and Howard Skempton, chaired by Robert Worby.

Saturday 5 June at 7:30pm - Cabaret
Performers include Howard Skempton (accordion), Darragh Morgan (violin), Robin Michael (cello) Ian Mitchell (clarinet), and Robert Worby with Langham Research Centre (sinewave oscillators). Featuring works by Paul Burnell, Cage, Cardew, Satie, Howard Skempton, Dave Smith, John White, Robert Worby, and the premiere of Wolff’s Duo 9 for violin and cello.

Saturday 5 June at 9pm - Reception with Wolff, in partnership with Peters Edition.

Sunday 6 June at 2pm - Burdocks (entry charge to participate)
CoMA Allcomers Scratch Ensemble directed by Gregory Rose with Christian Wolff, Ian Mitchell, Michael Parsons, Dave Smith, Robert Worby, CoMA East Midlands and CoMA London Ensemble.
